on a China trip

We occasionally open one or two seats on our open-enrollment executive trips to journalists whose coverage aligns with the trip theme. No program fee. Everything is off the record.

How it works

Join the group. No fee. Off the record.

Our open-enrollment trips bring together a small cohort of investors and executives for direct access to the companies, factories, and people building China's technology industry. We run two to three programs per year, typically tied to an anchor event (an industry conference, a factory cluster, a city) with structured company visits and expert facilitation throughout.

For a small number of trips, we open one or two seats to journalists or analysts working on coverage that aligns with the trip theme. You travel with the group, attend the same briefings and site visits, and experience the program as a participant — not as press.

In exchange, we ask that all sessions and interactions remain off the record. You pay your own accommodation and meals. The program fee is waived.

What you'll experience

Company visits & factory tours — typically 2–3 per day, including access to facilities not open to the public
Expert facilitation — sessions led by analysts and guides with deep industry relationships and Mandarin fluency
Small, curated cohort — ~15–20 participants drawn from fund management, corporate strategy, and executive leadership
Group dinners and side conversations — informal discussions with participants and speakers across the program
Unfiltered ground-level access — the kind of context and texture that comes from being physically present in China's industrial clusters
Ground rules
All sessions are off the record. The embed is not a reporting assignment. Sessions, briefings, and conversations with company executives and participants may not be directly quoted or attributed.
Company clearance is required. Participation is subject to approval from the companies visited. We confirm this in advance, but final clearance is theirs to grant.
You cover your own accommodation and meals. Ground transport and program logistics are handled by us.
Spots are limited. We accept one or two journalists per trip and screen based on beat, outlet, and fit with the trip theme.
